Overview Edit

Aerosmith is the eponymous debut album by American rock band Aerosmith, released in 1973. The album was recorded in two weeks at Intermedia Studio in Boston, Massachusetts. Much of the album is heavily blues influenced. The song Walkin' the Dog is a cover song originally performed by Rufus Thomas. Also featured on the album is "Dream On" which became an American top ten single when re-released in 1976. "Dream On" was first released as a single in 1973, The Album peaked at #21 on the Billboard 200.

The photo at right is the original cover, which misprinted the song "Walkin' The Dog" as "Walkin' The Dig". When a second pressing of the album was released in 1976, this error was corrected, and the cover replaced with a modified one made up entirely of the photo of the band members. This second pressing is the more commonly available version of the LP. When reissued on CD in 1993 as a remastered version, the original first pressing artwork was used.

4 stars Good Golly Miss Molly
After two decades of not being quite sure what my opinion of Aerosmith was, I finally broke down and bought this CD two weeks ago.

I can't stop listening to it.

There are some odd things here--for example, how come "Make It" is so good, even though Joe Perry's guitar solo is not quite in tune and is totally out of time? Is he playing along with a different song? And who did the lousy overdubbed lead guitar on "Somebody"? It's played bad and edited even worse. And what's with the goofy intro to t…

The average listener really doesnt know Aerosmiths debut album. Hell, few average listeners know classic early 70's Aerosmith to began with. But even the most commercial music fan who likes Jamies Got a Gun, Love In An Elevator, Dude, or Rag Doll is aware of some of the hits off the bands early records, this album however is devoid of airplay aside from one major song and maybe a little bit of another. Those bring Dream On and Mama Kin. But is their debut any good? Most call it uneven but AS fan…
