Overview Edit

Five discs, arranged in rough chronological order of original recording/release, spanning 1982-2005. Includes demos of some of the band's best early material (Dark Streets of London, Streams of Whiskey), unreleased covers, instrumentals, film soundtrack cuts (including several sung by the rare Cait O'Riordan), alternate versions (a American Country version of "If I Should Fall From Grace w/God" among others), traditionals, collaborations (w/Dropkick Murphy's, Bono, Sinead O'Connor, and of course Dubliners). Much material here that is not available elsewhere, not even on bootleg or audience recording. Phil Chevron put a lot of time and effort into recording/remastering, and it shows in the product which is technically prisitine sounding. Extensive booklet with much commentary from Phil, James Fearnley, Andrew Ranken, Spider. All of this packaged in a book-like case. Not cheap (around $95), as it seems to have been available as a US-issued set only briefly last year, and is usually listed as an import.

My. God.

This is no "best of" box set, recycling the same stuff you've already got in your collection...I own just about every official and unofficial recording the Pogues have ever released, and this compilation is almost entirely new to me. Live tracks. Demos. Peel Sessions. Remixes.

More than just a box set, this is archival stuff - the recorded history of one of the best (and most influential) bands in the history or rock music.

3 stars This is just for the Pogues fan but not worth the money for anybody else
I was excited to hear this even though a two thirds of it is bad I'm a huge Pogues fan and if I wasn't such a fanatic about their stuff this would of been a total waste of money.

Hearing "NW3", the different versions of "Fairytale of New York", the live stuff and the Pogues version of Shane's solo songs like "Aisling", "Victoria" and "Dunigal Express" was worth the money. On the other hand most of the songs are duds, I mean come on who wants to hear Shane sing "Do you believe in magic" and "Eve …
