Melo-death or Power-death? Whatever it is, it's great!First off, I'm not a death metal aficionado. If you have read my review on "With Oden on Our Side" you'll know that Amon Amarth was my first real purchase in the Death Metal genre. I was attracted to them because the music in the snippets I'd heard was just the kind of thing I like. Aggressive, rough even, but beautifully melodic. It helped that Johan Hegg's vocals are incredibly easy to understand as he enunciates his growls and sings very rhythmically.I'd read some of the early reviews on Me…
OKI like Amon Amarth's music. Especially Oden, Fate, and Once Sent, and even the latest, Surtur Rising, but this seems glossed over, almost lazy. Not standing out at all in their collection. The music is still good, but there are much better Amon Amarth albums out there. Short of the singular solo addition from Roope Latvala, there isn't a whole lot going for this album other than Amon Amarth's great execution. Execution is one thing, but execution without inspiration is pointless. 3 stars for chops, 0 stars for anything else.
