Overview Edit

In My Tribe is an album by American alternative rock band 10,000 Maniacs. It was their second major-label album and their first to achieve large-scale success. John Lombardo, Natalie Merchant's songwriting partner on previous albums, left the band in 1986. Merchant began collaborating with the other members of the band, most notably with Rob Buck.

In 1989, the track "Peace Train" was removed from the U.S. CD version. The song remains on vinyl copies and CDs released outside the United States. The song was later included in a 2-CD compilation, Campfire Songs: The Popular, Obscure and Unknown Recordings, released on January 27, 2004 by Elektra/Asylum/Rhino Records.

"In My Tribe" was the Merchant and Company's best album, containing the ace single "Like the Weather," and accompanying material that is just as strong. Other highlights are the child abuse take "What's the Matter Here," the tribute "Hey Jack Kerouac," and the catchy "Don't Talk." Unfortunately, the…

3 stars Great for its place and time...
I borrowed this CD from the library once when I was in high school. It was spring break, and I was alternating this CD with The Smiths' Meat Is Murder. I was also reading Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead and a biography of Marie Antoinette. Now whenever I hear In My Tribe, it is inextricably tied to the memory of The Fountainhead (and likewise with Marie Antoinette and Meat is Murder). Some records are like that. You get them and they make an immediate and indelible impression. In My Tribe was like t…
