Biography

Edit

The Everly Brothers topped the charts in Britain and America in the late 50s and early 60s with a series of close-harmony hits including “Cathy’s Clown”, “Bye Bye Love” and “All I Have to Do Is Dream”. In all, they enjoyed 26 Billboard Top 40 singles and that achievement was recognised when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. Rolling Stone magazine lists them as No.33 on the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

They released a series of successful albums and though their fame waned towards the end of the 60s, they continued to play together until, in 1973, Phil Everly stormed offstage during a concert and the double act was no more. By 1983 they had patched up their differences and reformed. The success of the early years was not revived but they did find minor success with a new single “On the Wings of a Nightingale” written by Paul McCartney and two new albums, Born Yesterday (1986) and Some Hearts (1989). They still tour today.
