Biography

Edit

Uri Brener was born in Moscow and has been playing the piano since the age of four. After studying and performing in Germany, he moved to Israel and has won a series of highly prestigious awards and scholarships - among them the Israeli Prime Minister prize for composition.

"A Walk", his debut solo album, was released to rave reviews. The album includes 12 pieces played on a vintage piano surrounded with lots of vintage microphones - all recorded in an empty hall.

Uri was chosen as resident composer of the Israel Sinfonietta Beer-Sheva. The Sinfonietta's 2007-2008 season opened with the worldwide premiere of his concerto for piano and orchestra, "Blarings, Clouds, Celebrations". The concerto has won a prestigious ACUM award.

He regularly tours around the world (sometimes with a Jazz trio) and was recently commissioned to compose a concerto for cello and orchestra to be premiered with Sinfonia Toronto.

Award winning Canadian cellist Rachel Mercer has just released her version of Uri's composition, Dialogue IV, as part of the Allergy To Consciousness singles series.

On February 2010 it was announced that Uri has won yet another ACUM award - this time for his Faust Concerto.
