Overview Edit

Incredibly, this much loved ABBA song was not even supposed to be a single! In Australia, ABBA had enjoyed two #1's from the 'ABBA' album ("I Do, I Do, I Do..." and "SOS"). The group was quickly becoming the hottest thing ever, and Australian radio was looking for another hit from the group. But they were told that there would be no more new singles from the group until new material was recorded. So, DJs began playing "Mamma Mia" on the 'ABBA' LP. The song, helped by a promotional videoclip, began to pick up steam on the charts. Finally, the group issued the song on a single in Australia, and it went to #1. Once other countries saw the success, "Mamma Mia" was issued. It was the group's second #1 single in the UK, proving that ABBA was not just a Eurovision act.
