Overview Edit

After a lackluster debut as the FestFolk Quartet in 1970, the group took a break and returned to their separate ventures until 1972. "People Need Love" was the group's first real single in June of that year. Using the more-than-a-mouthful name of "Björn, Benny, Agnetha & Frida," the quartet decided to record a follow up single ("He Is Your Brother"). Both singles were hits in Sweden. Based on their appeal, the group entered Sweden's Song For Europe competition to gain a chance at performing in the finals of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. Their entry, "Ring Ring," did not carry the group to the finals as they had hoped, but it became their first minor hit in continental Europe. The album RING RING appeared around the same time and was a massive hit in Sweden. The album has tracks from various sources: Benny & Bjórn's pre-ABBA work as a duo ("She's My Kind Of Girl"), Agnetha's self penned solo work ("Disillusion") as well as the group's first two singles and a handful of tracks written especially for the album. A fourth single, "Love Isn't Easy" was pulled from RING RING later in 1973. It was not a hit outside Sweden.

5 stars Debut album has some great songs
Nobody could claim that this is the best Abba album, but it is much better than some would have you believe. Indeed I prefer it to a couple of their later albums.

The title track was a hit in several European countries but not the UK, so this album never got a British release on vinyl. That is a pity, because the songs here are of a remarkably high quality. Five of them appeared on the first Greatest hits album - Ring ring, Another town another train, People need love, Nina pretty ballerina and…

3 stars Why Don't You Give Me a Call?
The first album released by the supergroup is really a mixed bag for me. "Ring, Ring" has a nice pop feel to it and "Disillusion" is a meloncholy song alot which they would be known for in future releases but then there is the "rock" song. "Rock n Roll Band" is ok but rock is not what this group was.
