Adam Ant Isn't Back...Yet
May, 26 2010
Unfortunately for those who were looking forward to a little nostalgia, Adam Ant’s comeback has been stopped in its tracks. The singer, whose real name is Stuart Leslie Goddard, originally found fame with the New Wave-pirate antics of Adam and the Ants and released three well-received albums which enjoyed success on both sides of the Atlantic. After a series of solo releases, his career stalled in the late 90s and his last album, Wonderful was unleashed in 1995. His success was partly derailed by his struggles with bipolar disorder, but the signs were good that his forthcoming album, Adam Ant Is The Blueblack Hussar in Marrying The Gunner's Daughter would herald a return to former glory.
It all started to go wrong during a charity performance in Portsmouth, England, when the singer’s behavior began to raise concerns. Having responded negatively to the crowd and finishing his gig early, he later exacerbated discontent by telling press that he “didn't come here for this. I won't talk to any locals any more because they are all gangsters." Newest reports indicate that the singer is back in hospital, having been sectioned under the UK Mental Health Act of 1983. However, he remains undeterred, assuring his fans that, "I am having a well earned rest at Her Majesty's Pleasure and am painting and continuing being an art student. I have a great view and am considering gigs later in the year."
