Overview Edit

Answer That and Stay Fashionable is the debut album by American band AFI. It was originally released on August 1, 1995 by Wingnut Records. Answer That and Stay Fashionable was recorded in Hayward, California at the studio of Andy Ernst with production help from Doug Sangalang, Tim Armstrong and Brett Reed. The album was re-released by Nitro Records on April 22, 1997. The cover of the album is a parody of the film Reservoir Dogs, of which the album also contains audio excerpts. The album title stems from The Comic Strip Presents: "Bad News Tour", excerpts of which are played at the start of "Don't Make Me Ill" and the end of "Highschool Football Hero." The album also contains an audio sample from European Vacation.

The tracks "Two of a Kind" and "Yürf Rendenmein" were later re-recorded for the Very Proud of Ya album. The title of the song "Yürf Rendenmein" is a play on the phrase "your friend and mine." The lyrics for "Cereal Wars" are credited to Toucan Sam as a joke.

It is stated on the album that all songs, excluding "Open Your Eyes", are copyrighted to Anthems For Insubordinates.

I miss this AFI. I miss songs about jocks & mohawks. I miss them sampling 'Reservoir Dogs'. I miss the rebelliousness and the overall "F*** you!" attitude. I miss the days when it was hard to understand the lyrics. If you enjoy punk, and I mean REAL punk (not Good Charlotte), then you should buy this album. It's just awesome overall. Fast, crazy, chaotic. What punk should be.

AFI's debut album is a great deal different from their last few CDs. There is no traces of Goth or pop punk here, just straight up old school punk with some truly hilarious lyrics. The problem with this album is it's all the same, there's almost no variation, so it's good when you listen to just a few tracks (all of which are good) but put back to back it's impossible to get through the entire CD without a headache. The two standout tracks for me are "High School Football Hero" and the Classic "…
