Anastacia is an American pop singer-songwriter born in 1968. To date fame has eluded her in her homeland but she has been successful throughout Europe and beyond.
Born to a showbiz family, her career started when she was still young and she attracted the attention of Daylight Records after she appeared in the finals of the MTV talent show The Cut.
Not That Kind, her debut album, was released in 2000 and proved extremely successful. The single "I'm Outta Love" reached the No.1 spot in several countries but not, alas, in the US. This was a situation which repeated itself with the following single releases.
Freak of Nature (2001) did not capture the massive success of her debut though it performed well. But before she could record her follow-up she discovered she had breast cancer. The treatment impacted her strong and distinctive voice for a while and the whole episode inspired a change of focus and direction in her music. For the next album she decided to incorporate more instrumentation creating a self defined "Sprock" (soul, pop and rock). The result was Anastacia (2004), another internationally huge hit, though it was not released in America at all.
Since then there has been a greatest hits album (Piece of a Dream and a live DVD Live at Last) but no new album. Recent information indicates that Anastacia is working on a new album during 2007 although no release date has been given.
