Alt folk-rocker, women's rights activist and feminist icon Ani DiFranco was born in Buffalo, New York. Her highly personal, often political lyrics, cover a range of socially relevant subjects including poverty, sexual abuse, racism, sexism and homophobia. She is also a political activist, campaigning for Ralph Nader in 2000 and in 2004 she supported Democratic Presidential-hopeful Dennis Kucinich. DiFranco owns her own record label, Righteous Babe Records, and has released 17 albums in 17 years making her one of the most prolific modern artists. Her most notable albums are, Not So Soft (1991), Not A Pretty Girl (1995), and Educated Guess (2004).
