Biography

Edit

Arch Enemy is a Swedish melodic death metal band formed in 1996. The current members are Angela Gossow, Michael Amott, Christopher Amott, Sharlee D'Angelo and Daniel Erlandsson.

The band was formed when Michael Amott left his previous band Carcass. He brought together his brother, Johan Liiva and Erlandsson and created a band whose intention was to 'fuse melody with aggression and technicality'.

Their first album was 1996's Black Earth which was, in reality, largely a Michael Amott solo effort. It achieved a measure of success in Japan and Sweden, partly as a result of the single "Bury Me an Angel". The follow-up album was 1998's Stigmata and with it, the group began to gain a foothold in Europe and America. D'Angelo joined the band in 1999 and later that year they released Burning Bridges. By now the band was slightly less fierce and choosing to adopt a more melodic style. In 2001 Liiva was replaced by Gossow and her first album with them was Wages of Sin in 2001. Anthems of Rebellion (2003) was followed by Doomsday Machine (2005) and their most recent release is 2007's Rise of the Tyrant.
