Ash

When Northern Irish rock band Ash announced that their 2007 release Twilight of the Innocents would be their "last album," it didn't mean the group was splitting up. Frontman Tim Wheeler explained: "The way people listen to music has changed. With the advent of the download the emphasis has reverted to single tracks." After almost two years away, they've finally announced their new strategy: to release a new single every fortnight for a year. Their so-called A-Z singles series will feature 26 singles, each in turn representing a letter of the alphabet, released in CD, limited edition vinyl and digital formats. "We wanted to be the first people to do it like this," Wheeler told the NME. "This is a time when you can try new ideas and it can work." As a preview they've released a song which didn't fit into the scheme, "Return of White Rabbit," for free download from their official website. "I think it'll be great for our fans waiting every two weeks knowing they're going to get a song and wondering what it'll be like," Wheeler added. "It'll be fun."
