Atif Aslam is the ex member & the lead vocalist of the Pakistani band JaL. When in the band, he and the composer, founder & lead guitarist Goher Mumtaz, released their first song, "Aadat". After the release differences surfaced between Atif and Goher which resulted in Atif's expulsion from the band.

Atif soon began work on his second album, competing in the charts with his old band and using songs composed by Goher. The dispute between Atif and Goher escalated and the resultant press raised the profile of both musicians.
