Kenneth Brian Edmonds aka Babyface was born in Indiana in 1958. He has applied his Midas touch to singing, songwriting, and producing.
After playing with the bands Manchild and Deele he left to pursue his solo career, releasing his debut album Lovers in 1986. It was the start of a recording career which would include the multi-platinum albums Tender Lover and For the Cool in You and No.1 singles including "Love Saw It" and "Love Makes Things Happen".
In addition to his own music he has written songs for a diverse list of artists including Madonna, Eric Clapton and Aretha Franklyn. Not content with being successful in existing forms of music, he helped popularise new jack swing, which is a mix of soulful R&B and hip-hop. His No.1 single "It's No Crime" is a prominent example of the style.
Edmonds co-founded LaFace Records, signing, producing and writing for Toni Braxton and TLC, who sold over 10 million copies of their debuts for the label. He also set up the Edmonds Production Company, along with his then wife Tracey, responsible for the films Soul Food and Josie and the Pussycats.
