English singer-songwriter Damon Gough is known for his scruffy appearance and woolly hat, and his Mercury-Prize winning debut album. After releasing five limited-edition EPs in the late 90s under the moniker Badly Drawn Boy, he released first album The Hour of Bewilderbeast in 2000. It was praised by music writers, before being awarded the aforementioned prestigious British award. It went on to sell over 300,000 copies.
Gough has struggled to match the success of ...Bewilderbeast ever since. His About A Boy soundtrack reached No.6 in the UK Album chart and was warmly received, but Have You Fed The Fish? (2002) failed to excite many listeners, and One Plus One Is One (2004) wasn't a success either. Fifth album Born In The U.K. (2006) was criticised for being bland, and many observed that Gough had lost his touch.
