Biography

Edit

Beenie Man was born Anthony Moses Davis in Jamaica in 1973. The singer and producer can justly claim to be the King of the Dancehall.

He recorded his first single in 1981 (aged 8) and within two years he had released his debut album The Invincible Beenie Man: The 10 Year Old DJ Wonder. There would be something of a hiatus until he reached international prominence.

His 1995 album Blessed reached the top 20 on the Billboard Reggae chart. He followed this up with "Who Am I" (or "Sim Simma") which went gold in the US, while Art and Life earned him the Grammy for Best Reggae Album. Now in demand from other artists, he recorded a duet with Janet Jackson ("Feel It Boy") which spent three months on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2002. The Back to Basics album produced the single "Dude", recorded with dancehall stars Ms. Thing and Shawnna, which reached the top 30 of the Billboard chart. His string of collaborations would continue with hip-hop artists Ak'Sent and Akon.

The album Masters of the Dancehall is due for release in 2007
