Overview Edit

"Legal Man" is a single released by Belle & Sebastian on Jeepster Records in 2000. The title track also features Jonny Quinn and Rozanne Suarez of The Maisonettes on congas and vocals, respectively. The cover features band members Stevie Jackson and Isobel Campbell along with Adrienne Payne and Rozanne Suarez. All three tracks from the single were later collected on the Push Barman to Open Old Wounds compilation. The track became their highest charting single up to that point, reaching #15 in the UK singles chart. They also made their debut on Top of the Pops to perform this song.

5 stars A different turn for Belle and Sebastian
Legal Man is not the standard Belle and Sebastian record everyone expects. The title song is very strange and though I can't think of a comparison, I always think of Tjinder Singh's side project Clinton (although it really isn't the same.) "Judy is a Dickslap" is a very cool instrumental which catches all of the band members at their musical best. Finally, "Winter Wooksie," which is my favorite on the single, sounds very much like early Burt Bacharach meets Donovan, with a strange guitar part. All in all, a fine record.

1 stars Not my cup of tea
Ever since I heard the melancholic beauty of If You're Feeling Sinister I have never hesitated to pull out my wallet for the latest Belle and Sebastian release, and until now have never been dissapointed.
