Overview Edit

Dude Ranch, the second studio album by blink-182 and the last featuring drummer Scott Raynor, exemplifies the young, snot-nosed punk rock attitude that many now associate exclusively with blink-182. Dude Ranch grew in popularity with the release of two singles, one of which being “Dammit”, which is to this day one of the most well known blink-182 songs, and was certified Platinum in the United States. In the years before blink-182 had any topics of true seriousness to sing of, the band wrote many songs just with the idea of creating a fun atmosphere about their albums. Dude Ranch shows this love for jokes with filler and spoken bits before and after songs just for kicks. Each bit seems, in some way, to follow the theme of a “dude ranch” (see photos of the band from the album shoots). This humor, however, is slightly immature, and sometimes a little sick, so it would not quite appeal to average Alternative fans, or fans of blink-182’s later works. Humor aside, the quality of the album is erratic on a song to song base. The songs may be catchy, but musically and lyrically it is not the best blink-182 has to offer. An album by a still a maturing band, Dude Ranch does have its high points, with songs like “Dammit”, “Josie”, “Apple Shampoo”, and “Emo”. An above average album as far as pop-punk albums are concerned, Dude Ranch falls short of blink-182’s full potential.

5 stars Still sets the bar after all these years
It's been almost ten years now since Blink 182 released Dude Ranch (oh God, I'm getting old!) , and yet it still sets the bar for what a pop-punk album should sound like. While "Enema of the State" may have sold more albums and truly made Blink 182 a household name, many people were introduced to Blink 182 via the radio single "Dammit (Growing Up)". While many simply placed the cd back on their shelves after they played that song out, many others discovered that they were quickly falling in love…

3 stars I Liked Enema Of The State Better
I liked this cd. It was pretty good. It's a little heavier then Enema Of The State and less disgusting. I'd buy it if you like metal or punk but not if you think it's like Enema Of The State. Enema Of The State is softer and is more pop influenced. This one is good and heavy but I think I like Enema Of The State better. The best songs are Dammit, Josie, and Untitled but most of the tracks are good.
