Biography

Edit

From a sound that was initially reminiscent of Sonic Youth, Blonde Redhead have grown and mellowed to produce a style which the LA Times called “art music and heart music”. Most of all, it is the high fragile vocals of Kazu Makino which identify them most clearly. They have built a loyal and growing fanbase with little in the way of media support.

Blonde Redhead was formed when Italian brothers Amedeo Pace and Simone Pace and Japanese students Makino and Maki Takahashi started to play on the New York City underground music scene. Their initial release Blonde Redhead (1995) was produced by Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley, before Takahashi left the band shortly after. Since then they have released six albums, primarily as a three-piece. The most recent was 2007’s 23, which was praised in many quarters as their best yet.
