Biography

Edit

In a career that spans 40 years and more than 25 albums Blue Öyster Cult (BÖC) has been recognised as a pioneer in the heavy metal genre for their use of sci-fi/occult imagery. They have sold over 14 million albums worldwide but are best known for their 1974 release Secret Treaties and the follow-up in 1976, Agents of Fortune. BÖC's best known singles are the acclaimed hit "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" from Agents of Fortune, from their 1977 album Spectres "Godzilla" and "Burnin' for You" from their 1981 album Fire of Unknown Origin. Over the years the band has had more than 20 members but the current line-up is Eric Bloom (lead vocals, guitar), Buck Dharama (lead guitar), Richie Castellano (keyboards), Rudy Sarzo (bass) and Jules Radino (drums), of those only Bloom and Dharma have been with the band since its inception.

Trivia

Edit
  • BOC used to play gigs at small venues at times of lesser popularity under the "secret-underground" name: "Soft White Underbelly", whose performances, although advertised on local radio stations under that name, would not be revealed as REALLY being: THE Blue Oyster Cult! Those in the know could catch performances by the "big name band" at small venues, up close.
