Bootsy Built It, Will You Funk?

May, 28 2010

There are few who would argue against the fact that Bootsy Collins is one of the most respected and influential proponents of the funk genre; his bass style has helped to define P-Funk and has earned him his place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As a result, many would aspire to Bootsy’s funky bass mastery. Luckily budding Bootsy-a-likes are about to be given the perfect chance as Bootsy spreads the news about the forthcoming July 1 launch of his new Funk University. F.U. affords students a golden opportunity to make their best efforts to emulate their master. As the website for the new online institute says, “a groove is a terrible thing to waste; this sonic learning institution will be unlike anything before, as Professor Collins and the finest bassists in music will unleash an intense curriculum, on the web, for intermediate to advanced funk disciples within the program." There may be only one Bootsy, but if the University reveals just one equally-talented protégé, it will all have been worth it, and we certainly look forward to hearing the results.
