Biography

Edit

That their name is derived from the 1978 comedy routine by Steve Martin "Bowling for Shit" should tell you a lot about the lyrical philosophies of Bowling For Soup. A comedy-based, pop-punk band originating in Wichita Falls, Texas, and consisting of Jaret Reddick (vocals, guitar), Erik Chandler (bass, vocals), Chris Burney (guitar, vocals) and Gary Wiseman (drums, vocals). Founded by band frontman Jaret Reddick, Bowling For Soup came together in 1994 and, four short years later, they recorded and released their first studio album, Rock On Honorable Ones!!, on independent record label FFROE.

It was the mild success of their second album Tell Me When To Whoa!!! (also on FFROE) that prompted major label Jive Records to sign the band. In 2000 they released their major label debut, Let's Do It For Johnny -- referencing film/literature and taking the album name from The Outsiders -- which spawned the bands first hits "The Bitch Song" and a re-make of the Bryan Adams song "Summer of 69". In 2002, riding high on the wings of success, the band recorded their breakthrough album Drunk Enough to Dance, which garnered Bowling For Soup a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for the song "Girl All The Bad Guys Want". Stamping their mark on the comedy/pop punk genre with the lyrics "She likes the Godsmack and I like Agent Orange/ Her CD changer's full of singers that are mad at their dad/ She says she'd like to score some reefer and a forty…".

Bowling For Soup's next release, 2004's A Hangover You Don't Deserve produced their biggest hit so far with "1985". The single displayed their dazzling comedic instincts and struck a social chord with the witty lyrics; "She was gonna be an actress/ She was gonna be a star/ She was gonna shake her ass/ On the hood of white snake's car/ Her yellow SUV is now the enemy…".

After the 2006 release of The Great Burrito Extortion Case, the band went out on the, Get Happy Tour. They later announced at the June 2007 Download Festival that they would start the Get Happy Tour 2, touring around the UK, as well as making a few stops in the US. The tour would also include the bands; Bloodhound Gang, Zebrahead and Army of Freshmen.
