Overview Edit

Boxcar Racer is the 1st & only studio album by the American alternative rock band Boxcar Racer. Produced by Jerry Finn, the album was released May 21, 2002 through MCA Records. The band was essentially a side-project of Blink 182 members Tom DeLonge & Travis Barker, with David Kennedy completing the band’s studio lineup; bassist & friend of Kennedy, Anthony Celestino, toured with the band throughout late 2002.

The album was a success, the album peaking at number 12 on the Billboard 200, as the 2 singles "I Feel So" & "There Is" charted relatively high on the U.S. Modern Rock Tracks chart. Despite receiving positive reviews on release, Tom DeLonge has stated that the band has "served it’s purpose" & is now defunct.

4 stars A solid side project
What happens when you take the teenage potty humor out of Blink-182, and combine it with a much darker sound? You end up with Boxcar Racer, a side project by Blink's Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker. Teamed up with Over My Dead Body's David Kennedy on backing guitar, and Anthony Celestino on bass, Delonge puts out what could be considered in many ways a solo project. I don't mean that in a way to put down or give any less credit to the other members. But it was Tom's idea in the first place to pay …

3 stars mediocre
No surprises here... sounds like Blink 182. If you like that band, this release will probably have a happy home in your media player. All the comparisons to Fugazi and Refused are completely unwarranted and undeserved, IMHO, since this is pretty pedestrian stuff that breaks no real ground.
