Biography

Edit

Brian Douglas Wilson (born June 20, 1942 in Inglewood, California) is an American musician, best known as the leader and chief songwriter of the rock group The Beach Boys. Within the band, Wilson played bass and keyboards, also providing part-time lead vocals and, more often, backing vocals, harmonizing in falsetto with the group.

Wilson was the primary songwriter in The Beach Boys, also functioning as the band's main producer, composer, and arranger. In 1988, Wilson and his band-mates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which refers to Wilson on its website as "One of the few undisputed geniuses in popular music". In 2008, Rolling Stone magazine published a list of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time", and ranked Wilson number 52. Wilson won a Grammy Award in 2005 for "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow (Fire)" as Best Rock Instrumental.

He is also an occasional actor and voice actor, having appeared in television shows, films, and other music artist music videos.

Brian Wilson

Sep, 11 2008

It was a long time coming, but the 2004 release of SMiLE, 37 years after it was originally conceived by Brian Wilson as the Beach Boys' follow-up to Pet Sounds, was welcomed by Beach Boys fans and a new generation of music lovers alike. His re-recording of the most famous unfinished LP ever, with Van Dyke Parks' assistance, won universal acclaim from critics who were astonished that such a hugely anticipated album could actually live up to all their lofty expectations. Last week Wilson and Parks returned with a new studio album That Lucky Old Sun, a full-length ode to the joys of Southern California. It's not quite another SMiLE, but it has received a favorable reception, with positive reviews and a No.21 spot on this week's Billboard Hot 200.
