Britney Spears’ Toxic Habits Result In New Lawsuit
Jul, 21 2011
While we’d usually reserve this sort of thing for Stranger Than Fiction Friday, we can’t resist sharing this amazing little tidbit now. While Britney Spears has been known for a number of things – teen pop starlet, over-sharer on TV show “Britney and Kevin,” bats**t crazy, bald, umbrella-wielding loon – but news that she’s just been sued by a former body guard for excessive flatulence now tops the list.
E! Online reports (yes, we read E! and we feel shame) that one of Spears’ former (and very briefly employed) bodyguards has alleged “lewd and unhygienic” behavior. His employer apparently picked her nose, didn’t shower or exercise dental hygiene, and had a massive gas problem (presumably from her Cheeto addiction).
Fernando Flores apparently filed suit against Spears in the fall of 2010, claiming that Spears sexually harassed him, used drugs, and was an all-around creep. And now he claims "She broke wind or picked her nose unselfconsciously and unapologetically before [Flores] and others and she was constantly and gratuitously loud and profane in her speech."
And for having to put up with this, Flores is seeking $10M. Seriously, dude? That’s why they call it a “job!” Hopefully a judge dismisses this case as it appears to have little, if any, legal merit.

Music Videos: Entertainment or Advertising Platform
Feb, 19 2011
Do you remember the product placement spoof scene in the movie Wayne’s World? Turns out embedded marketing has become an increasingly important revenue stream for both manufacturers and for creative industries’ financing, and music videos are the latest place for branded items to pop up.
Lady Gaga’s Telephone video was rife with consumer goods. Now it is Britney Spears’ new video for the ravey Hold It Against Me that is getting the treatment.
Billboard points out that in the video, Spears, a Sony artist, can be seen in front of a Sony television, and few up-close shots of the Sony logo that are perhaps more subliminal advertising than brand placement.
The video also has close-ups of Make Up Forever brand of eye shadow and Spears' Radiance brand of fragrance. On one of the Sony monitors Spears can be seen browsing Plenty Of Fish’s online dating site; a placement for which Plenty of Fish paid handsomely. According to a New York Times article, the placement was arranged by the Kluger group, whose chief executive Adam Kluger told the Times to his knowledge Plenty of Fish is the only paid placement in the video.
Billboard also notes that "Hold It Against Me" director Jonas Akerlund too directed the product-heavy video for "Telephone," which also featured Plenty Of Fish, which seems, well, kind of fishy.

After the Black Eyed Peas spent an eon at No.1 with "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling," Jay Sean's usurping chart-topper "Down" has been knocked off the summit after just one week by Britney Spears's hot new single. "3" has leaped straight to the top in its debut week thanks to 255,000 sales and a strong first week on radio, becoming the first non-American Idol song to debut at No.1 since Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)" way back in 1998. Three is Britney's magic number for two other reasons: It's Britney's third No.1, after "Baby One More Time" (1999) and "Womanizer" (2008); and it's also the shortest-titled Hot 100 No.1 ever, beating the joint record held by Frankie Avalon ("Why"), the Jackson 5 ("ABC"), Edwin Starr ("War") and Michael Jackson ("Ben" and "Bad"), all of whose songs had three characters. Britney's "3" is the first new single to be released from her upcoming compilation The Singles Collection, which is due to hit stores on November 24.

There isn’t an explicit lyric in the entire song, but moral crusaders are getting hot under the collar about Britney’s new single. The PTC (Parents Television Council), which describes itself as a “nonpartisan education organization advocating responsible entertainment”, is taking exception to the fact that the title of the new track, “If You Seek Amy,” sounds like it spells out a common swear word when said quickly. Their offense at the lowbrow schoolyard pun has resulted in them urging radio stations not to broadcast the song from 6am to 10pm since they believe that it would violate the broadcast indecency law. However, so far they've had little effect and the song, promoted by ample airplay, had edged its way into the Billboard Pop 100 chart. A sanitized version of the song, “If You See Amy”, has been released to stations as a benign alternative to placate the worried parents.

It’s been 5 years since Britney played in Britain, and a lot has happened to the hapless pop star in the interim. But her comeback appearance on UK shores was a disappointment after fans complained that she lip-synched on top TV talent show The X-Factor. In honor of their special guest, the Saturday night show had a Britney theme, but while the young contestants were praised or criticized for their renditions of Britney hits, the only performer not to actually sing one of her songs was the woman herself. As a result, press coverage of the night focused on Britney’s lack of vocal effort on "Womanizer," the first single from new album Circus, rather than on her confident choreographed dance moves.

Britney's comeback from a troubled couple of years is complete: she's top of the Hot 100 with new single "Womanizer," the first time she's topped that chart since her debut single, "...Baby One More Time," ten years ago. She's also set a new record with an almost unbeatable 96-1 jump on the Hot 100 - it's the biggest jump ever to the top spot, beating T.I.'s 80-1 record set only last week. 286,000 digital sales were enough to outstrip the Southern rapper, who can at least argue that his fans were faced with the dilemma of choosing between two of his singles to spend their dollar on. "Live Your Life" (featuring Rihanna), last week's No.1, is now down to No.3, while "Whatever You Like" remains at No.2. But they're both blocked by Britney, who won three awards at the MTV VMA ceremony last month to signal her intent to return to the top. Her sixth studio album, Circus, is due out on December 2, Spears' 27th birthday, and a world tour is expected sometime in the new year.

As we recently reported, she’s clutching three shiny new Moonman trophies and displaying a tighter grip on her career than has been witnessed in quite some time. Plans are afoot to release her new album, Circus on December 2, her 27th birthday. The fans are excited and the press are excited. In fact, it’s all positive stuff and many would say that there’s little doubt that Britney is riding on the crest of a comeback wave. To consolidate her steady climb back to health and achievement, Britney confirmed in an interview with New York pop radio station Z100, that she intends to undertake a world tour during 2009. Though some may worry that it’s all a case of too much too soon, Britney is already rehearsing and preparing herself for the gruelling schedule - and the success - which hopefully lies ahead.

As expected, Kanye West did perform his new song, "Love Lockdown", at the MTV VMA ceremony in Los Angeles last night. But the real star of the show was Britney Spears: exactly a year since her embarrassing "Gimme More" performance, Britney came away with three Moonman trophies, her first ever VMAs. "Piece of Me" was the successful clip, which even won the coveted Video Of The Year prize. Earlier Britney had helped promote the show, appearing in a series of commercials with English comedian Russell Brand and 'an elephant in the room' (surely a reference to last year's bomb). Other winners included Chris Brown, whose "With You" scooped Best Male Video, and Tokio Hotel, who won Best New Artist.

Interesting collaboration suggestion of 2008 has been made by knarled punkster and former Sex Pistols frontman, John Lydon. In an uncharacteristic outpouring of sympathy he has proposed that he would like to write a song for the troubled Britney Spears and stated in a recent Sun interview “I'd like to help out because there's a girl who needs some help. She's been hurt and hurt is the root core of good music.” Music lovers across the world will be steeling themselves to hear the result of this one, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Spears indeed.
