So I like Britney. But I like Britney more when she's at least TRYING! I mean really TRYING! When she's believing in what it is she's creating and putting out there for her fans. That was part of her charm. People would put her down for so many things but she would always try and succeed because she loved music and believed in her music. She would go into the studio and work with her team and make great songs. Now, I believe her name is listed under one writing credit on this album after years of her working to build on her music. In this CD she's not there... maybe it's just me... but I can't put my finger on it.
For the most part the album is a blur. Now I know, I know, it's a dance album. Great. But I was expecting Britney to put out a CD that would take me "places". Not just a CD to dance to on the dance floor or listen to while washing clothes or cleaning the house. I expected some kind of story from this album but the material is like everything else out there.
Girl in club. Girl sees guy. Girl dances on guy. Girl takes guy home. If not the message, the ideal.
Is that all Britney? I'm not saying air dirty clothes but she has a million things to sing about now than something so - I don't know what's the word. I mean. What happened to songs like "Breathe on Me" or "Shadow" or "Toxic" or something that had a little more creativity behind it (FROM HER) besides the heavy studio men showcasing their engineering skills in the studio. She sung a beautiful song about her breakup with Justin. She sung a beautiful song about her baby (which I was hoping was going to be on this one). To me she proved that she actually has something to say and now... I don't know what this is...
Dance CD or not, we've heard Britney sing before on her albums and I could actually hear her. Now, I can't hear her. Voice morphed or not. It's a strain to get pass the noise to hear what she's saying. I think that's my major problem with this CD is that I can't hear - HEAR her - if she's saying something important that's she's learned or not.
And one thing that bugs me about this CD is the supposed "sexy" lyrics and crooning; the fact that she keeps holding on to this image she ONCE had. Britney. The fantasy has been ruined for us. Please believe that.
For those of us expecting a little more, I suggest to just take the CD as it is. Listen to it or not. As far as I'm concern I now see she's still in the eye of the storm in her personal life and the creativity isn't there. Just take the album as it is. A wild dance CD where you're just going along to the beat, not the message. Hopefully after she gets whatever she needs in her life she'll have her eyes wide open and ready to grind out something heavy and inspirational. I'll spin the CD a few more times, I did my part by paying for it blindly and I'm not regretting it.
My opinion on BEST tracks...
-Heaven on Earth. Kinda Madonnish.
-Get Naked is cool. It's got that haunting voice that I like.
-Toy Soldier. I might be mistaken but doesn't this sound like something M.I.A. done. At least vocally.
-Perfect Lover is pretty good. Timbaland did this right?
-Why Should I Be Sad. The only song CLOSEST to what I expected from this CD.
