Biography

Edit

US born duo Brooks & Dunn and have carved out a successful career in country music, with a consistent run of multi-platinum albums, top selling singles and a raft of awards. They can also claim to have had a hand in the election of a President of the United States (twice).

After moderately successful solo careers they got together in 1990 in Nashville. The whole proved to be greater than the sum of the parts, and with Dunn taking on vocal duties, the duo's mix of country, rock, gospel and honky-tonk have taken consistently taken them to the top of charts.

Their debut album, Brand New Man, was a top five Country chart hit and crossed over to the US chart, where it was a top ten. The album produced one of their best known hits "Boot Scootin' Boogie", which has also been credited (along with Billy Ray Cyrus' "Achy Breaky Heart") with helping to popularise the line dancing phenomenon.

Their subsequent albums have gone platinum (multi-platinum for their first six releases) and each one has been attended by critical praise in the form of awards from both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association.

George W. Bush used "Hard Workin' Man" and "Only In America", for both of his Presidential campaigns (which he won).

Brooks & Dunn

Aug, 12 2009

Legendary country duo Brooks & Dunn have announced a tour for next year, and they say it will be their last. "After 20 years of making music and riding this trail together, we have agreed as a duo that it's time call it a day," they said. Kix Brooks, 54, and Ronnie Dunn, 56, have topped the country charts twenty times together since forming in 1991, and the songs "My Maria" and "Ain't Nothing 'Bout You" were named by Billboard as the No.1 country singles of 1996 and 2001 respectively. Their 2001 anthem, "Only in America," has been used by both parties during election campaigns, though Dunn is a professed Republican. Together they have sold over 22 million albums in the United States, more than any other country duo. A hits record, #1... And Then Some will be released next month, and full details of The Last Rodeo Tour are also expected to be announced shortly. "This ride has been everything and more than we could ever have dreamed," they said. "We owe it all to you, the fans. If you hear rumors, don't believe them, it's just time."
