Biography

Edit

British rock band Bush always had more success in the US than in their home country. The UK was swept up in Britpop fever in the mid-90s, so Bush found more fans in America where grunge bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were more popular than groups like Oasis or Blur. Five singles were released off Bush's debut album Sixteen Stone (1994) for the American market, and each went Top 5 in the Modern Rock Chart. The album went on to sell six million copies in the US. Follow-up Razorblade Suitcase (1996) went to No.1 on the Billboard album chart, and the lead single "Swallowed" topped the Modern Rock chart for seven weeks. It even reached No.7 in the UK singles chart, introducing many Brits to this homegrown band who were already superstars across the pond. Despite "Swallowed" being their most successful single, Razorblade Suitcase sold half as many copies as their debut album: a still impressive total three million. Third album The Science Of Things (1999) sold two million, and final album Golden State (2001) sold less than 400,000 in the US. The band split soon after.
