Cage the Elephant is an American rock band from Bowling Green, Kentucky where they were originally known as "Perfect Confusion." Their single "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" reached number 32 on the UK Singles Chart and was recently featured in the Gearbox Software video game Borderlands. The band signed with EMI Records after showcasing at the 2007 South by Southwest music festival, and then moved to London, England. They released their eponymous debut album, Cage the Elephant, on 23 June 2008. The album obtained mostly favorable reviews. Cage the Elephant appeared as a support act on tour with The Pigeon Detectives in early 2008 and with Silversun Pickups and Manchester Orchestra in 2009. The single, "Ain't No Rest For the Wicked", was the free single of the week on iTunes for the week of April 12, 2009. The group made a national TV appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman in July, 2009. In August 2007, Cage the Elephant played for the first time at Lollapalooza in Chicago, and returned to the festival in August 2009, as well as San Francisco's Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival on August 30, 2009. Prior to their return to Lollapalooza the band also played at the music festival Bonnaroo twice, in June 2007 & 2009. New Music Tuesday: Cage the Elephant

Jan, 11 2011

Kentucky rockers, Cage the Elephant’s sophomore effort hits shelves today. The 13-track album, Thank You, Happy Birthday, boldly announces a new-found maturity without sacrificing a sense of playfulness and discovery typical of a young band. Cage the Elephant was discovered in 2007 at South by Southwest music conference in Austin, TX. Shortly thereafter the band signed to Relentless Records and moved to London to cut their teeth, further honing their energetic melody-heavy punk. The 2009 self-titled debut Cage the Elephant spawned three top five singles: “Back Against the Wall,” “In One Ear,” and the slinky rocker, Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked, used in TV and games. Before they knew it, they had become festival staple, playing Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Outside Lands. In the two years since their debut, amid serious touring, the band managed to write and record this new release. It’s clear the quintet has a fondness for the indie rock of the 1980’s and the ‘90’s grungy, lo-fi vibe, counting among their influences Pavement, Pixies, Mudhoney, The Shins, Butthole Surfers, and Cake. You can watch a performance of the entire new album and an interview with the band here.
