Overview Edit

Fashion Nugget is the second studio album by CAKE, an alternative rock band from Sacramento, California. It was released in 1996, and contains 14 songs. "The Distance" became one of the band's biggest hits, and helped the album go platinum.

An instrumental version of "Italian Leather Sofa" was later used as the theme song for the TV show Mission Hill.

In the United States, the album received a Parental Advisory sticker for profanity in the songs "I Will Survive" and "Nugget." The former song was actually a cover version; the original version by Gloria Gaynor did not contain profanity.

The bizarre "Open Book" is appealing in its odd harmonies and disjointedness. "Daria" gets my vote for the strangest lyric of the album: "[I won't be] smoothed over like milk, silk, a bedspread, or a quilt, icing on a cake, or a serene transluscent lake." "It's Coming Down" is both cynical and humorous regarding a breakup, saying…

3 stars An OK album
A couple of silly "filler songs" such as "race car ya yas"

It's cheesy, jazzy rock music. Again, it's OK but I won't buy another Cake album. You're not really missing anything if you don't buy this except for their song "the distance"

Wouldn't recommend to a friend.
