Did Chris Crib From Calvin?

Oct, 6 2010

Musical plagiarism is easy to claim but difficult to prove, as two Scottish artists are finding out. Dance-pop artist Calvin Harris has accused Chris Brown of plagiarism after hearing the R&B star's new single "Yeah 3x" on the radio. Harris said he nearly "choked on [his] cornflakes" when the song was played because it bore a striking resemblance to his UK No.1 hit "I'm Not Alone." "Stealing is still stealing, doesn't matter who you are," Harris said on his Twitter page. "[Just] because Chris Brown is an international celebrity doesn't make it OK to rip off a guy from [the] UK not many people have heard of." "I'm Not Alone" was a hit across Europe but Harris has yet to make an impact in the US. Despite the claim, Harris said he wouldn't sue the American singer. "What good would that do?" he asked. "Happy for people to make their own mind up." Meanwhile, an unknown Scottish singer has accused Australian singer-songwriter Nick Cave of stealing too. Frankie Duffy, of the now-split Rising Signs, said "Palaces of Montezuma" from Cave's new Grinderman 2 album is a copy of his band's "Grey Man." But at a gig last week, Cave said "You may have read that some kid in Dundee is trying to sue me and is claiming to have written this song. That's funny, because I wrote it for my wife." Duffy is still deciding whether to take the issue further.
