Biography

Edit

Mexican trio Camila made a strong entrance onto the Spanish-speaking pop/rock scene in the summer of 2006. The group is formed by Samo (voice), Pablo Hurtado (guitar), and industry mainstay Mario Domm (piano, voice, composer, producer). Reyli Barba, Sin Bandera, and Kalimba all have Domm to thank for his hit songs and a winning producer's ear. Those songwriting and production skills, combined with the fresh artistic perspective of Samo and Hurtado, resulted in the release of their 2006 debut record, “Todo Cambió,” subsequently nominated for Premio lo Nuestro's “Revelation of the Year” Award. Camila has since toured exhaustively throughout Latin America and the States.

The group took home Song and Record of the Year at the 2010 Latin Grammy Awards. At the same time their album Dejarte De Amar won best pop album by a duo or group with vocal.

Camila Triumph at 2010 Latin Grammys

Nov, 16 2010

The 11th annual Latin Grammys took place in Las Vegas this past weekend. 2010 Grammy voters gave big thumbs up to developing acts by awarding Mexican trio Camila and their hit single "Mientes" the Record and Song of the Year, while their album Dejarte De Amar won Best Pop Album by a duo or group with vocal. Proving that they were able to garner critical and commercial success between this year and last’s nominations, Camila succeeded in tying the number of wins with veteran act Juan Luis Guerra. Guerra's A Son De Guerra took the Album of the Year award. In picking up his award, Guerra, who performed with trumpeter Chris Botti, called for "justice and integrity" for Latin countries. Overall, the Latin Grammys in key categories belonged to acts that tended to be less established or more eclectic. Best Urban Song went to alt rapper Mala Rodríguez rather than powerhouses like Daddy Yankee and Don Omar. 2010’s Best New Artist award went to Alex Cuba who often co-writes with Nelly Furtado. Enrique Iglesias performed new single "No me digas que no" with Wisin & Yandel and his hit "I Like It." Marc Anthony, who lost the Best Male Pop Vocal Album award to Alejandro Sanz, performed his single "Y Quien es el" with its composer and original interpreter, José Luis Perales.
