Biography

Edit

Forming in Buffalo, NY in 1988, Cannibal Corpse have played a key role in the development of death metal and attracted a cult following. They have also caused controversy and outrage from the mainstream because of the shocking nature of their song titles and lyrics, and the graphic gore depicted on their album covers. This has resulted in some of their albums being banned from sale or airplay, particularly in Germany. Despite this censorship, they are estimated to have sold over a million records worldwide.

Initially influenced by the sound of bands like Slayer and Death, over time Cannibal Corpse have stuck to the brutal death metal blueprint they created, while adjusting its sound album-by-album to stay relevant. Their big breakthrough was Butchered at Birth in 1991 and Tomb of the Mutilated in 1992 is also considered one of their best albums. Following a cameo on 1994 blockbuster Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, their next album (released just two months later) became their biggest selling - The Bleeding.
