Stranger Than Fiction Friday: Grammy Edition
Feb, 11 2011
As if the recent announcement of Dr. Dre and Eminem performing together at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards isn’t awesome enough, today comes the announcement Cee Lo Green – the jocular vocalist of the NSFW hit “F*ck You,” will perform the song along not only with Gwyneth Paltrow, but with a backing band of Muppets. Rather, likely the radio edit version of the uber-catchy track, “Forget You,” will be performed, but you can sing along with the obscenity-laden version in your head.
Says Brian Henson, son of Muppets' creator Jim Henson, on the planning of Sunday night’s performance, “We had never worked with [Cee Lo] before, and he's just a fabulous guy," Henson said.
"We have a live theater show in New York called Stuffed and Unstrung, and we've taken a bunch of the characters from that cast and made them into a band and backup singers for Cee Lo… I think he's a lifelong fan of the Muppets… I think it will really be an unforgettable version of the song."
Speaking of performers, Justin Bieber, who will perform at the Grammys, is the root of some eye-opening web searches. According to Yahoo’s analytics for the past 30 days –the specificity about which they know this stuff should probably creep you out a bit - a majority of Bieber-related searches originate in Texas, 64% are done by females, and 27% of searches are made by people under 25 while 24% are made by full-on adults (45+).
Let’s break that down: 36% of searches are done by guys and roughly 50% are made by 26-44 year-olds. But hold on, the biggest jump in search is for “Justin Bieber tattoo": a whopping 3,182% from the previous month!! While that may be music to the ears of laser removal tattoo specialists, we are just kinda stunned.

Cee-Lo's Radio-Unfriendly 'Art'
Aug, 31 2010
Cee-Lo Green, probably best known as one half of “Crazy” duo Gnarls Barkley, is dedicated to his art. His career to date has been filled with plaudits and his latest single should – he says – continue to reach the same lofty standards. “I still believe that [the song] can be classified as art, because it's an original piece,” he said, “and the edge and alternative is there, and the integrity is intact.”
Unfortunately, so are 16 f-bombs and several minor potty-mouthed misdemeanors, all sitting aloft a tuneful, sunny melody. “F*** You” is about a gold-digging girlfriend, and Cee-Lo admits, “I get to be bad a little bit so that's what was fun about it. It's quite a bit of mischief in that song, so we weren't taking ourselves too seriously.”
It’s not clear whether the song’s current internet success is in spite of or because of the expletive-heavy lyrics, but sensitive souls are assured that a radio-friendly version, benignly titled “Forget You,” will be released shortly. The host album is The Lady Killer, Cee-Lo’s third solo disc, which is due for release in December.
