Chad Smith

Even though the Red Hot Chili Peppers are on hiatus, drummer Chad Smith is working hard. First was the June release of the eagerly anticipated debut release by Smith, Satriani, Hagar and Anthony in their incarnation as rock supergroup Chickenfoot. Then came the September release of Meet the Meatbats, the debut release from Smith’s instrumental funk-rock outfit, Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats. Not content with just these two releases, Smith is veering into completely new territory with the upcoming release of Rhythm Train. The album is aimed at a whole new audience -- the under-fives -- and is a collaboration with Leslie Bixler, a lady who sings at his son’s pre-school. His quest to appeal to the diaper dollar may well benefit from the inclusion of the rapping talents of Mr ‘Mary Poppins’ Mockney himself, Dick Van Dyke, of whom Smith said, “He is the coolest f---ing guy. He's sharp as a tack, funny, so cool.” A great rock drummer, playing children’s tunes with a rapping Dick van Dyke; that’s probably enough to warrant at least one cautious listen, wouldn’t you say?
