Overview Edit

Follow the Reaper is the third album by Finnish heavy metal band Children of Bodom.

The music continues the musical tradition of the previous album, Hatebreeder, only with a more straight-forward direction. Much of the black metal and symphonic metal elements were present, mainly in the keyboards, vocals, and fast tempos, as well as a stronger emphasis on power metal. Many songs on the album end as live setlist favorites, such as "Everytime I Die", "Hate Me!" and the title track. The song "Mask Of Sanity" is quite similar to the song "Talking Of The Trees" from their early demo "Shining" (Released as IneartheD)

Follow the Reaper was recorded and mixed at Peter Tägtgren's Abyss studio in Sweden, instead of the Finnish Astia-studio from Anssi Kippo, in which they had recorded all of their previous releases, including the demos from IneartheD. On this album Children of Bodom used the D standard tuning (D,G,C,F,A,D), which was also used on their previous studio album, Hatebreeder.

A deluxe edition featuring two bonus tracks was released in 2006.

5 stars Fantastic Album
I love metal. Ever since I was a freshman in high school when my cousin, a professional violinist who I've always looked up to in terms of music, introduced me to it back in the days. One of the bands that he hooked me up with was Children of Bodom. I'd say this is CoB's best album, but it's a very difficult choice. The music that this band produces is truly amazing, and this album is a perfect highlight of their career.

Each track is its own, no repeating riffs, no dull moments. What I find mo…

3 stars great music, bad vocals
Genre: extreme metal (melodic death metal, power, symphonic, black, neo-classical)

Follow the Reaper marks a transition for CoB. The black and neo-classical elements are diminished, and there's more power metal influences. I've listened to all of Children of Bodom's albums except Relentless Reckless Forever. And my opinion of all six is about the same.

The band has great music. Laiho is one of the best metal soloist of all time; his skill amazes me in almost every song. The riffs are great, an…
