Chingy is a US-born rapper and businessman, best known for his debut single “Right Thurr” which got his career off to flying start with a Top 10 chart position.
Chingy’s break came when he joined the tour of fellow St. Louis rapper Nelly, where he met and was signed by Ludacris, to his Disturbing tha Peace label. Chingy’s early work was as a featured artist on tracks by other label artists, including Busta Rhymes and Ja Rule.
His big breakthrough came with the single “Right Thurr” in 2003. It became a huge hit and combined with two other strong singles promoted the album Jackpot to triple platinum sales. A disagreement with his record company resulted in a label change to Slot-A-Lot Records, a label which Chingy himself set up, for his further releases.
Despite the all-star cast of collaborators, both the follow-up albums struggled to sell as well as his debut. He returned to Disturbing tha Peace in 2007 for Hate It or Love It, critics were lukewarm over the album, but the fans took it to the Top 20 of the R&B and the Rap charts.
