New York dance-rock band !!! approached Prince-levels of pertinacious naming with that unpronounceable moniker, but the difficulties of discussing 'the symbol' were conquered, and !!! fans have settled on referring to their favourite band in speech as "chk chk chk". The band were seemingly influenced by Prince in sound too, as they attempted to meld his funk stylings with post-punk guitars.

They debuted in 2001 with !!!, which received mixed reviews, before winning over the critics with the 2003 single Me and Giuliani Down By the School Yard (A True Story). Louden Up Now, the following year, featured that track and won better reviews than the debut. Third album Myth Takes, released in 2007 on Warp, was considered their best yet, receiving very positive reviews from most journalists.
