Chris Martin

There are many ways in which a rock star can measure his success -- platinum records, adulation by the masses, a spouse at least two decades younger -- but for absolute proof of celebrity status, he really needs to turn yellow and guest star in an episode of The Simpsons. In the hundreds of episodes created since the first short film aired in 1989, viewers have been treated to an illustrious line-up of stars eager to make a cartoon of themselves. Now it’s Chris Martin’s turn. The Coldplay singer has secured a speaking part as himself, and will appear alongside the remainder of Coldplay in a storyline which sees the band being hired to play a private performance for Bart and Homer. Also appearing during the next series run will be Eartha Kitt, who recorded her part for the show shortly before she died on Christmas Day last year. Martin and Kitt join an impressive list of guest stars from all parts of celeb culture, which includes from the world of music Tony Bennett (who was the first to guest star), Michael Jackson (credited as John Jay Smith) and Aerosmith (the first band to feature on the show). The new season of The Simpsons is expected to air in the US in September.
