Overview Edit

Back to Basics is the third full-length English studio album by American singer Christina Aguilera. The album was released on August 15, 2006 in the United States and Canada, on August 9, 2006 in Japan, on August 12 in Australia, and on several dates in Europe, starting on August 9, 2006, and ending on August 22, 2006.

The album features what Aguilera describes as "a throwback to the 20s, 30s, and 40s-style jazz, blues, and feel-good soul music, but with a modern twist." The album has yielded three commercial singles: "Ain't No Other Man", "Hurt" and "Candyman". "Slow Down Baby" was used as a promotional single to promote her tour in Australia and "Oh Mother" was released as the album's fourth single in some parts of Europe. The album made Aguilera's second U.S. non-consecutive number-one album. Aguilera also had two nominations for the Grammy Awards in the categories Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance ("Candyman") and won the category of Best Female Pop Vocal Performance ("Ain't No Other Man"). Back to Basics was her first studio album since 2002's Stripped.

5 stars Christina's Respect to Back In the Day
How refreshing to see someone as young as Christina paying respect and tribute to the soul/jazz/blues legends of yesteryear (even though she appears to be confused about the eras. Most of the songs has influences from the 50s, 60s, and 70s and not just the 20s, 30s, and 40s as she claimed). This confusion does not hurt the beauty of this cd. In fact, it allows Christina to offer something to everyone.

On Disc One, Christina joins forces with DJ Premier, Rich Harrison, Kwame, Mark Ronson, Charle…

After listening to this on and off I realizes that this album has it's moments but it won't be on heavy rotation on my personal player. This album has been promoted as a throw-back-retro of the blues, jazz, and soul cultivated during the past five decades unfortunately it really doesn't measures up to the task. Imitation this time is less than flattering to the R&B artists she holds in such high esteem.

Admittedly she has a great and mature voice as evidenced by her collaboration with previous …
