Biography

Edit

Coheed & Cambria are the US based prog rockers, whose series of concept albums are based on the The Amory Wars stories written by the band's lead singer Claudio Sanchez.

The band formed in 1995, from the ashes of Toxic Parents and after a stint as Beautiful Loser they plumped for the name Shabutie. As Shabutie they released two limited edition EPs of prog/punk fusion, the Penelope EP and Delirium Trigger. The EPs featured ideas from Claudio Sanchez' sci-fi writings, which also include two characters Coheed and Cambria, the band decided to take the name in 2001 and series of albums, based on the stories, followed.

The four albums in The Amory Wars series change in style and influence as the story develops. The first has post-punk influences and features a collaboration with Dr. Know, of the hardcore punk band Bad Brains. The third and best selling of the series Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness is less punk and more of a rock/prog mix, similar to early Rush. The last of the series, 2007's Volume Two has a more polished rock sound.
