Overview Edit

A Rush of Blood to the Head is the second studio album by English rock band Coldplay. Released on 26 August 2002 through the label Parlophone in the UK, the album was produced by the band and British record producer Ken Nelson. Attitudes to songwriting were affected by the September 11 attacks in the United States, which occurred the week before recording started. The songs featured in the album have a greater use of piano and guitar than Coldplay's debut album, Parachutes. In 2003, it was ranked number 473 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The album was a huge commercial success, debuting at number one in the United Kingdom and later placing at number seven of the country's 20 biggest-selling albums in the 21st century. The British Phonographic Industry has since certified the album eight-times platinum for its accumulated sales of over 2.6 million units in Britain and over 11 million worldwide. The album spawned the hit singles "In My Place", "The Scientist", "Clocks", and "God Put a Smile upon Your Face". A Rush of Blood to the Head has been praised by critics. It won the 2003 Grammy for Best Alternative Album for the second time in a row, successive to their previous win in the same category and the 2004 Grammy for Record of the Year for the song "Clocks".

5 stars Hope, Inspiration... I've already forgotten Yellow
Sadly, I don't have Parachutes. Still, when the chance came I decided to get this follow up album. I've never thought a great deal of Coldplay, always thinking of them as aimless depressives. But I was of course, wrong... behind every miserable sounding Trouble and Don't Panic there's a real message, and usually an optimistic one. They're a band who may throw you, but listen again...

On to this album. I bought it on the strength of In My Place, a fantastic, cheerful song, the liveliest on the al…

3 stars conventional and pleasant
Not being a fan of Coldplay and not having even heard "Parachutes", minus the singles "Yellow" and "Trouble", I picked up "A rush of blood..." on the strength of the first offering, "In my place" after quickly previewing the album before it's release. Comparisons to Radiohead and the lesser, Travis, are undeniable given the lilting falsetto of Chris Martin is so akin to the vocalizations of those bands. I'm pleasantly surprised by the overall melodic content of the record although tracks such as…
