Biography

Edit

Although Culture Club may now be more famous for its iconic frontman Boy George and his flamboyant on-stage antics, at the time Culture Club were groundbreaking for openly portraying homosexuality. Formed in London in the early 80s, Culture Club would help open attitudes to gays while managing to have many top ten hits songs around the world, most notably "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?", "Karma Chameleon", "Church of the Poison Mind" and "Miss Me Blind". They released five studio albums, four between 82 and 86 including their two most commercially successful Kissing to Be Clever and the seminal Colour by Numbers, and a "comeback" album in 99 Don't Mind If I Do, which was a commercial failure.

Culture Club

Jun, 26 2008

It would seem that America has enough high-profile, home-grown bad boys to consider importing any faded naughty kids from abroad: Boy George, better known as the flamboyant front man of Culture Club, is the latest British star to be refused entry to the US. Though Amy was banned for her drug taking, George – allegedly no stranger to a little illicit candy himself – is awaiting trial for the small matter of chaining a young man to the wall of his apartment. Though he remains innocent until proved guilty, the very allegation has been enough to scupper his plans to undertake a US tour starting on July 11 in Las Vegas.
