Cypress Hill are a Latin American hip-hop group formed in 1988 in California. They are best known for their smokey beats, and B Real's nasal delivery on tracks such as "Insane in the Brain", "Hits from the Bong" and "What's Your Number?".
The band were formed by B Real, Sen Dog, DJ Mugs, Eric Bobo and Mellow Man Ace. Their self-titled debut album sold two million copies in the US, and was later described as a blueprint for much hip-hop that followed in the 90s. It was the first of a run of critically successful gold or platinum-selling albums.
They gradually introduced rock influences into the sound, with Fear Factory guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers contributing to Stoned Raiders. However this change was not too popular with fans, and the album did not sell as well as previous releases. There was a splash of reggae added to 2004's Till Death Do Us Part, which gave them a crossover hit when "What's Your Number?" found a place on the Modern Rock chart.
The band are in the process of recording their next album for their new label Suburban Noize Records.
