I cannot stop listening to this cd. True, it's not David Gray's most upbeat set of songs, but it is just *so* beautiful.

Like many others, I didn't discover David Gray until DMB introduced me to him. 'White Ladder' was my favorite album last year. I love his electronic-infused folk sound, and admit that I worried that 'Lost Songs' would be too mellow for me.

I shouldn't have worried at all. This album is just breathtaking from start to finish. It's by far my favorite David Gray cd. If you are hesitating over purchasing this because of the time frame of the songs- don't wait to buy it. Ever since it arrived, it's been in my discman non-stop. Yes, it is introspective, and will not make you jump up and down and dance, but it will make you *feel* and isn't that what counts?

the odd thing about david gray is that he's suddenly become immensely popular (and deservedly so) at a point in his career where the music he's producing is if anything slightly inferior to the work he's produced over the past ten or so years. his first two albums 'a century ends' and 'flesh' are filled from start to finish with the kind of brilliance that just about comes up often enough in 'white ladder' to make it a great album. with all that terrific david gray material out there, i just wonder why anyone thought it necessary to release this painfully ordinary collection of disappointing moments. the thing that's always impressed me most about david gray is his ability to consistently be both varied and interesting within a musical genre that can be very samey in the hands of a less imaginative musician. in fact, i was so impressed that i was beginning to think he couldn't put a foot wrong. that every song he wrote was a piece of genius. one listen to 'lost songs', however, and it's clear david gray is as mortal as the rest of us. this collection of songs deemed not good enough for gray's proper albums is exactly that. song after song of a supremely talented musician at his most mediocre. your money is much infinitely better spent on his first two - believe me.
