The American pop singer-songwriter Debbie Gibson was born in New York in 1970. The teen idol's successful singing career has extended to theatre performances in the US and abroad.
After building a following through a rigourous touring schedule, Gibson released her debut album Out of the Blue in 1987. The album has sold over eight million copies worldwide and put her on the map as the youngest artist to write, produce and perform a No.1 single ("Foolish Beat") on the Billboard charts. The follow up album 1989's Electric Youth, saw her win the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Award, an award she shared with Bruce Springsteen. After two more successful albums she switched her attention to the stage, with roles in Les Miserables, Grease, Gypsy and Chicago. Her role in Grease, performed in London, led to a UK top twenty hit with "You're the One That I Want". She returned to recording in 1995 with the album Think With Your Heart. However it appeared that her audience had moved on, and subsequent releases sold poorly.
In March 2001 Debbie's seventh album MYOB(Mind Your Own Business) was released with all new material and including a song she collaborated with Tony Orlando on called "Knock Three Times".
In November 2003 Debbie released her eighth studio album called Colored Lights - The Broadway Album, consisting of twelve cover theatrical songs plus one original song called "Sex".
In Jan & Nov 2005 Debbie released two demo collections albums called Memory Lane Volume 1 and 2. Two demos from these albums were "Who Loves Ya Baby" and "Silence Speaks (A Thousand Words)" that had earlier appeared on Electric Youth album of 1989.
In February 2005 Debbie appeared in Playboy after many of years of saying no. She also released a single called "Naked" to coincide with the Playboy shoot. This single peaked on Billboard Hot Singles Sales at #35.
In January 2006 Debbie appeared with well known Ice Skater Kurt Browning on national TV for a skating reality show called "Skating with Celebrity". Debbie was eliminated after three episode but reappeared for the finale. In early 2006 Debbie teamed up with NKOTB singer Jordan Knight for a duet called "Say Goodbye" that was released to radio that summer and later becoming a Billboard AC hit peaking at #24 and #1 on some radio stations across the nation.
In February 2006 Debbie teamed up with The O'Neill Brothers for a song called "Someone You Love" and re-recorded her 1989 hit song "Lost in Your Eyes" for acoustic version.
In November 2006 Debbie Gibson created an offical Myspace site and released that same day a song called "Famous" for free download. She also had recorded a song called "Sounds Like Love" for the movie "Coffee Date."
In the summer of 2008 Debbie opened a camp for performing arts & music called Deborah Gibson Electric Youth, and also has a foundation called the Gibson Girl Foundation.
In June 2009 Debbie announced that she was working in the studio on a song but was only letting fans hear the intro. In January 2010 a a clip of this same song called "Cougar" that is to be on her next studio album made its way onto YouTube becoming a viral hit with her fans.
Debbie is due to release the album Ms Vocalist in November 2010 through Sony Japan. The first official music video for this album is called "I Love You" and was released on October 19, 2010 on Debbie Gibson's official YouTube site.
