The world needs more of this band. These guys do for death metal what later day King Crimson did for "rock" music. They have cemented technical ability with the human touch to create death metal perfection. Too many bands are all flying fingers and speed with no soul. Decapitated are the one of the best the genre has to offer. Speed. Surrealism. Hallucinations. Lyrical mazes strobing and pulsing. Listen to track 6 and lose yourself in the best "bad trip" you'll ever go on. Spin this while you are enjoying your art collection, a good pulpy Lovecratian story, or your first cup of coffee before work. You will be hooked.

this is not a new or progressive strain of metal, this is standard death metal done well. this does not mean, however, that decpaitated is a clone or generic. in fact, the strength of this album is in its (their) own particular sound and writing style; this album's strength is its character, something which many metal bands lack. the riffing is good and sometimes great; it is somewhere between 'reign in blood' (slayer) and a less technical 'whisper supremacy' (cryptopsy). the opening riff to sphere's of madness and the intros on the second and fourth tracks come to mind. one of its weaknesses is that there are not many tempo or motion changes, though there are certainly plenty of breaks. these breaks, however, are certainly not taken advantage of; it seems they could've used these albeit well placed pauses to greater use. for decapitated to get better, they must be as free throughout the songs as they are initially on each track.
