Deep Forest are an electronic/new age group, who incorporate samples and themes from around the world into their music. At the core for the band are two French musician/producers, Eric Mouquet and Michel Sanchez.
The band sample international music and singing, and mix them with chill-out friendly beats. They found success with their self-titled debut album, which took its inspiration from Africa and the Pacific. The single "Sweet Lullaby" pushed the album to sell three million copies and receive the Grammy nomination for Best World Music Album in 1993
Follow up albums visited Eastern Europe, Spain and the Middle East for inspiration and would sell over five million copies. However the Music Detected album, which saw them take on rock influences, failed to appeal and sales were poor by their previous standards.
Their production work has included remixes for Youssou N'Dour, Jon Anderson and Apollo 440. They have also provided scores for the cinema; Pacifique for the French film Le Prince du Pacifique, and the Japanese film Kusa No Ran.
